Los vocales del Consejo de la Judicatura, Maribel Barreno y Juan José Morillo son investigados por el presunto delito de tráfico de influencias.
El Consejo de la Judicatura ha perdido el respaldo de la Corte Nacional de Justicia, la Fiscalía y el Ejecutivo.
Una vez restituido en su puesto, el juez Walter Macías retomó sus casos y en uno de ellos, Macías convocó para el 22 de septiembre del 2023 a las 08:30 a la audiencia preparatoria de juicio en contra de Juan José Morillo y Maribel Barreno, vocales del Consejo de la Judicatura, investigados por el presunto delito de tráfico de influencias. En el mencionado caso también se encuentra procesado el juez de Pichincha, Vladimir Jhayya.
Macías firmó la providencia el 18 de septiembre, tras recuperar su despacho en la Corte Nacional de Justicia, al obtener una acción de protección, frente al intento de la Judicatura de removerlo.
El juez Walter Macías, deberá sustanciar cinco casos contra políticos, para la audiencia del 22 de septiembre también dispuso que se notifique a la Defensoría Pública para que intervenga, en caso de ausencia de los abogados particulares.

Maribel Barreno, Juan José Morillo, vocales de la Judicatura, son investigados por el presunto tráfico de influencias junto al juez de Pichincha, Vladimir Jhayya, por presuntamente intentar favorecer con una acción de protección a la entonces presidenta de la Asamblea Nacional, Guadalupe Llori, ante la destitución que enfrentaba.
Barreno también es investigada por presunta obstrucción a la justicia junto al titular de la Judicatura, Wilman Terán y el vocal Xavier Muñoz, tras la destitución del juez Walter Macías, quien ganó una acción de protección y ya fue reintegrado a su cargo.
